Kitchen With Solar Oven
We recently upgraded the back door at one of the houses in Fort Wayne. The tenants complained that the door was “blazing hot” in the afternoon sun. After staying in the house for a week in August – I was in full agreement. We had the door replaced with a fiberglass energy saving door from Lowes. What a difference!
Oh – I almost forget the part about the solar oven. The steel door we replaced
- Had no insulation
- Had unimpeded Western exposure for over half the day (the house is on a hillside)
- Was painted dark green on the outside
In short it was the perfect solar collector! During the heat of the day the interior side of the door was too hot to touch. In fact, the tenants who moved out say their dog still won’t touch any of the doors in their new house because she’s afraid to get her nose burned.
